Targeted stakeholder workshop on the potential ‘contracts for difference’ program

A potential action in the Draft Climate Change Fund Strategic Plan (PDF 4.0MB) is to investigate a competitive 'contracts for difference' funding model to guarantee a minimum price for output from new large scale renewable energy projects, providing benefits to local communities.

This potential action aims to help achieve the national Renewable Energy Target and maximise investment in new renewable energy projects in New South Wales.

Following public consultation in late 2016, the Office of Environment and Heritage hosted a targeted stakeholder workshop on 3 February 2017 to gain feedback from key stakeholders on options for program design including contract considerations and tendering arrangements.

The workshop was attended by renewable energy developers and their industry association the Clean Energy Council, and renewable energy investors including the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.

To find out what was covered in the workshop, see the presentation slides (PDF 6.3MB).

Note: This presentation was prepared for the purpose of consultation and development of policy, and to obtain feedback informing that policy development. It does not represent a final or concluded policy position of the NSW Government, nor does it constitute a representation or other contractual term of the NSW Government’s possible procurement process or subsequent contract. The government has not yet made any final decisions, including as to whether to proceed with a program.

Recipients should not rely on this presentation as a statement of NSW Government policy or intention. Importantly, it does not represent that it will proceed with the outlined program, entry into a contract for difference, or that the terms of such a contract will be as referred to in this presentation.

The NSW Government will only be bound by contractual instruments as executed.
