  • Draft National Parks and Wildlife Regulation 2019

    NPWS is inviting comment on the draft National Parks and Wildlife Regulation 2019 and accompanying regulatory impact statement. The new Regulation will replace the existing National Parks and Wildlife Regulation 2009.

    The draft Regulation sets out how certain activities are managed in national parks to ensure conservation values are protected and people can enjoy visiting parks in a safe and sustainable way. That includes rules for the entry of vehicles and animals to national parks, camping, preventing littering and damage, lighting of fires, and protection of vegetation.

    NPWS is inviting comment on the draft National Parks and Wildlife Regulation 2019 and accompanying regulatory impact statement. The new Regulation will replace the existing National Parks and Wildlife Regulation 2009.

  • Proposed horse riding in wilderness amendments to plans of management

    Proposed horse riding in wilderness amendments to plans of management for the Far South Coast Escarpment Parks, Kosciuszko National Park, and Mummel Gulf National Park and State Conservation Area, are now open for review and comment.

    Horse riding was trialled in these parks between 2014 and 2016. Outcomes from the trial have led to proposed amendments to enable horse riding to continue in locations that were part of the trial.

    Submissions closed on 7 August 2018.

    The Office of Environment and Heritage has prepared a discussion paper to seek stakeholder comments on proposed changes to wildlife licence classes to implement the risk-based approach.

    In addition, draft codes of practice for the keeping of lower risk native birds, frogs and reptiles have also been prepared for comment as well as a draft revised Animal Keepers Species List.

    Submissions closed on 24 July 2018.
