Hunter Valley Flood Mitigation Scheme Review - Online Survey

The Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) has commissioned the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Water Research Laboratory and SGS Economics and Planning to assess how well the Hunter Valley Flood Mitigation Scheme (the Scheme) will serve the community in the future.

The objectives of the project are to:

  • understand how the Scheme currently manages flood waters
  • evaluate the economic, social and environmental benefits and costs of the current scheme
  • provide some options and recommendations for the ongoing management of the Scheme, including considering the potential impacts of climate change.

To do this we need to understand your experiences living and working with the Scheme:

  • How does the Scheme help to protect your property/ where you live?
  • How has the Scheme operated during a flood?
  • Have the impacts of floods changed over time?
  • Are Scheme assets up to the task?

The survey which follows will take around 15 minutes to complete and is an important opportunity for you to give us your feedback about the Scheme – past, present and future.

All responses are confidential to the project and will not be identified with individual landowners.

We will use the information you give us to develop future options for flood management in the Hunter Catchment Area. We will seek further community input about future management options at a later date.

The Study Area for this project, along with the Scheme infrastructure, assets and floodplain, can be seen on the map below.
